Dark fiber, also known as unlit fiber, is fiber-optic cable and

infrastructure that is not being used for data transmission.

The cables are called "dark" because they are not lit by a light

signal.

Dark

Dark fiber is often installed by network providers with extra

capacity in anticipation of future demand. Since dark fiber

networks are privately held or leased, data and information

being carried across the fiber cannot be tracked or recorded

by outside parties, such as major carriers. Businesses and

organizations that need to send sensitive information via a

secure network benefit from dark fiber.

Dark fiber offers a key

security advantage by

providing a solution with

complete end-to-end

control.

Unlimited

Capacity

Dark fiber can provide busi-

nesses with nearly unlimit-

ed bandwidth capabilities

because dark fiber can

carry multiple wavelengths

at once, which increases

bandwidth. The GBS Fiber

Network infrastructure is

new and is optimized for

high capacity traffic.
